As a designer, to receive praise from one’s industry, is a fulfilling achievement. To receive awards in two separate areas seems unlikely. But what about winning awards in multiple areas of entertainment? Well, designer David Starr, has won multiple awards for his fashion brand RockStarr Designer Wear, in Milan, Venice, and Florence. He’s also been awarded “Production Designer of the Year” for his innovative live theater and concert stage designs. And he recently won an award for his first short film he produced and starred in called On The Roxx. From the fashion runways of Milan to the star-studded red carpets of Hollywood, David Starr shines in every environment.
Starr is a fashion designer, TV and film actor and host, producer, motivational speaker, production designer, star of his own comic book, and he thrives at all things creative. His client list includes some of the biggest names in show business: Kevin Hart, ALABAMA, Universal Studios, 50 Cent, Shania Twain, David Copperfield, plus many more.

His fashion style is eye-catching and flamboyant. He personifies the philosophy… “dress like you’re already famous.” He may look more like an 80’s rock star than a fashion designer, but Starr actually views himself as a fashion artisté. His canvas is a classic men’s blazer. And his influences are the Renaissance masters… DaVinci and Michelangelo, not the “grunge-style” rocker fashions that have come before.
His brand RockStarr Designer Wear, radiates elegance, and sophistication. His award-winning creations seem more suited for a Hollywood red carpet or regal gala. Each and every jacket is hand-painted by Starr himself, making them each a true haute couture masterpiece.
Recently, Starr applied his determination and drive to one of his other creative endeavors… acting in film and television. And he has quite a line-up of upcoming motion pictures. He’s appearing in a new pirate film with a horror twist called Cursed Waters. Filmed on the CBS Studios lot in Hollywood and locations along the southern California coastline, the film follows a group of pirates shipwrecked on a remote island with a dark secret. It stars Costas Mandylor (Saw film series, The Doors), Glenn Plummer (Sons of Anarchy, ER, Speed 2) and Vernon Wells (Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, Commando, Weird Science).
One upcoming project will feature Starr’s fashion brand as a central focal point of a new Italian feature film called If You’re Afraid in the Dark (Se Nel Buio Avrai Paura) shooting in Rome;Italy. Starr was selected from over a dozen fashion designers. The story finds Starr playing a cinematic version of himself, along with his fashion line RockStarr Designer Wear being central to the plot. The film will be directed by Francesco Greco, a young and talented director who has won numerous awards. The film will address issues such as alcoholism, domestic violence and gambling in today’s day and age, with the consequences they can have on both new and old generations.
Starr is also appearing in a new thriller titled Before Never. Described as “a dark retelling of Neverland”, the film takes familiar characters and creates a unique mystery thriller. Filmed in Cape Cod, the film will hopefully make the rounds at multiple film festivals.
He also filmed an Irish mob movie called Irish Ashes. The story follows an infamous Irish mobster who returns home to discover his sister is missing. He tracks down the gang responsible for her abduction and uncovers a dark family secret in the process. The movie was shot entirely in the UK, with some locations in Nottingham, England.
Starr also appears in the upcoming Bikers vs Werewolves which stars Jake Busey (Starship Troopers, Frighteners, Stranger Things), Michael Paré (Eddie and the Cruisers, Streets of Fire), and Robert LaSardo (The Mule, Death Race, Waterworld).
Plus a new sci-fi horror film called Alien Horde, and an action film titled Cartel Hitman.
In addition to acting, Starr also produces feature films. He recently served as Executive Producer on Hollywood icon Mickey Rooney’s final film Bamboo Shark. He also has a romantic comedy called Love, Faith & Dandelions in post-production now (he’ll make a cameo in this one).
His inspirational attitude has made Starr a sought after motivational speaker, film actor, and television personality. And other industries have taken notice of Starr’s inspiring journey. Two years ago comic book publisher Earth Dog Studios contacted Starr to license his story for a feature length comic book adaptation. After the long process of developing the story along with hiring an entire team of artists to illustrate the 28 page story, “RockStarr Designer: The Comic Book” was released earlier this year. The success of the release has made Starr a popular guest on the comic-con circuit.
So what’s next for Starr? Of course his brand RockStarr Designer Wear has a full slate of runway shows at many of the upcoming fashion weeks around the globe. He has almost a dozen movies in the can, and many other films to start shooting. So whatever comes next, you can be sure Starr will continue to shine.
