“I shouldn’t have used illegal, it’s undocumented,” Biden said in an interview set to air Saturday evening on MSNBC. “And look, when I spoke about the difference between Trump and me, one of the things I talked about in the border was his, the way he talks about vermin, the way he talks about these people polluting the blood. I talked about what I’m not going to do. What I won’t do. I’m not going to treat any, any, any of these people with disrespect. Look, they built the country. The reason our economy is growing. We have to control the border and more orderly flow, but I don’t share his view at all.”
Pressed by MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart if he regretted using the word “illegal,” the president said yes.

During the speech, Biden was heckled by Republicans including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who—along with a Trump MAGA
cap—wore a t-shirt that said “say her name,” referring to Laken Riley, the student killed, whose death has been seized by conservatives seeking to link the murder to the Biden Administration’s border policy.
“All of Georgia and the entire country have been robbed by this inexcusable and avoidable murder,” said Georgia’s Republican Gov. Brian Kemp. “Laken’s death is the direct result of policies on the federal level and an unwillingness by this White House to secure the southern border.”

Biden’s regret comes as a shift, after the president seemed to defend his use of the word when asked about it on Friday, when he was asked about it at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. “Do you regret using the word ‘illegal’ to describe immigrants last night, sir?”
“Well, I probably, I don’t, technically not supposed to be here,” Biden said. The MSNBC interview is set to air Saturday at 6 p.m. ET on The Saturday Show.
